ZAT chemical produced naturally during pregnancy could be dealing drugs in breast cancer. A study by researcher from Albany Medical College, New York, found, Alph-fetoprotein (AFP) worked inhibits tumor growth and prevent new tumors appeared
AFP body produces in response to pregnancy hormones (like estrogen and progesterone) that expressed some kind of trigger tumor growth. “Hormones during pregnancy, such as estrogen, stimulating the production of AFP, which directly inhibits the growth of breast cancer,” said study leader Dr. Herbert Jacobson.
Body, continued Jacobson, has a natural defense system against breast cancer. AFP, Jacobson continued, should be utilized safely and developed into drugs that could be used to protect women from breast cancer.
Previous studies showed that hormones released during pregnancy, such as estrogen, progesterone and human chorionic gonadotropin, may protect against breast cancer attacks. But this latest research shows that the AFP is the key to neutralize cancer-causing components of these hormones.
Detailed studies
The researchers conducted experiments on mice in the laboratory. The mice exposed to cancer-causing chemicals. Then they were given a pregnancy hormones such as estrogen and progesterone, or human chorionic gonadotropin
Researchers found that AFP levels in the body increases. Increased levels of AFP is to prevent the formation of tumors in half of these mice. In addition, the AFP has also been shown to stop cell growth of breast cancer through the pipe experiments.
This discovery, according to the researchers, indicate that the pregnancy hormones prevent breast cancer by stimulating the production of AFP.
