Histidine : An Essential Amino Acid

Histidine is actually produced in our bodies as adults. Unfortunately children may not have enough of this amino acid.

So why do we need this amino acid and what is its purpose in our body?

What It Is Used For

It is needed for growth and repair of tissue, and helps protect the nerve cells in your body. It also helps produce red and white blood cells in your body and protecting the body from radiation damage.

It helps in the stomach by producing gastric juices.

What is the Recommended Dosage?

Many people who take supplements of this amino acid take 2-3 1000mg pills daily. However, it is recommended that you take 8-10mg per kg of body weight daily.

What if I Take Too Much?

Too much of this amino acid may lead to mental disorders such as anxiety. Many people with schizophrenia have been found to have high levels of this amino acid. If you experience bipolar or schizophrenia consult a doctor before taking a supplement with this amino acid in it.

What Foods Have It?

Dairy, fish, poultry, meat, rice, rye, and wheat contain ample amounts of this amino acid.
