Do women needs to sleep longer than man?

Debate about the exhaustion of the most commonly occurs in each pair. Husbands and wives often accuse each other about who was sleeping at the most, who is supposed to take care of children who cry at night and who is the most powerful doing house chores.

Arianna Huffington, great commentator from the United States and co-founder of news site The Huffington Post, has raised women’s sleep problems as a feminist issue. According to Huffington, the problem of lack of sleep affects the decision-making, creativity and ability in developing the potential of women. But, did she need to sleep longer than men?

According to sleep experts from the UK, women need to sleep 20 minutes longer than men. This, according to experts, due to the busyness and the activities of their multi-tasking.

“The primary function of sleep is to allow the brain to improve and recover,” explained Professor Jim Horne, director of the Sleep Research Center at Loughborough University and author of Sleepfaring: A Journey Through The Science Of Sleep.

During sleep, the cortex (the front of the brain associated with memory function, language and others), break away from the senses and switched to recovery mode. The more you use your brain during the day, more and more areas of the brain that need restoration. As a result, you need to sleep longer.

Women, said Horne, tend to do many jobs simultaneously. Therefore, they employ more brains than men. To compensate, women need to sleep longer.
