Women with breast cancer who used aspirin at least twice a week has the ability to survive more than twice as large.
According to the study, the greatest protective effect can be obtained if the patients using aspirin two, three, four or five times a week. These drugs are proven to reduce the risk of death up to 71 percent and reduce the risk of spread of cancer to 60 percent. Patients were using aspirin just once a week does not get the effect.
Using aspirin six or seven days a week reduces the risk of death up to 64 percent. But the spread of cancer risk reduction fell to 43 percent.
The findings of researchers from the United States offers evidence that very interesting considering such a huge effect comes from pain medication cheap enough.
Previous research has also indicated that aspirin could protect against colon cancer. But earlier, its effect on other cancers including breast cancer is not clear.
In this latest study, researchers from Harvard Medical School followed the health of 238,000 nurses for 30 years.
“This is the first study found that aspirin significantly reduces the risk of spread of cancer and mortality in women who had been treated for early stage breast cancer,” explained study leader Dr Michelle Holmes.
If these findings prove through other clinical trials, he’s bright, the use of aspirin would be a simple, inexpensive and relatively safe to help breast cancer patients live longer and healthier.
Drug from the same class with aspirin, including ibuprofen and naproxen, the light he, as well as reduce the risk. But paracetamol does not reduce the risk.
Chemotherapy
However, the experts also warn of serious side effects of aspirin. These effects include gastric irritation that triggers bleeding ulcer and even fatal. For some people, greater side effects than benefits.
In addition to those side effects, further research, the new women diagnosed with breast cancer are also advised not to use aspirin during the first 12 months. This is because aspirin can cause side effects when they undergo chemotherapy or radiation.
How does aspirin affect the tumor? Researchers also have not found a good reason. But according to them, aspirin works to reduce inflammation.
“Still needed further study to determine the effects of aspirin against breast cancer. But for now, women with breast cancer who use aspirin may be more at peace with knowing that they do something to prevent recurrent breast cancer,” added Holmes.
